The Adverse Effects of Too Much Work and Irresponsible Drinking and The Necessity of Alcohol Rehabilitation And Relationship Therapy

Work was becoming too hectic for a young police officer named Gary. Although he had only been on the police force for two years, he was already known as a hard worker who hardly ever said no to working overtime. Actually, he was now working fifteen to twenty hours of overtime each week and, as a result, he felt like he was losing his hold on his personal life. What made the situation more complicated, however, was the fact that Gary started going out drinking with a gang of fellow officers after work.

What Began as Fun Soon Turned Into Careless and Irresponsible Drinking

What began as fun with the guys very soon turned into hazardous and irresponsible drinking and then into a negative cycle of feeling tired every morning when he got up for work, working more long hours, and then going drinking with his friends after work.

Visibly Gary was in a psychological and health-related rut and going through some adverse alcohol effects on the body. Where Gary really experienced alcohol related problems and alcohol short term effects, conversely, was in his marriage and in his family life. His wife wasn’t really a nag, but she regularly begged him to stay at home more with her and with the children rather than going through all of his money while drinking with his friends.

Gary’s Unhealthy and Abusive Drinking Negatively Affects His Personality

In a similar manner, Gary’s excessive and abusive drinking also adversely affected his personality. More to the point, the more heavily he drank, the less patience he had with any issues or problems that emerged concerning his wife or his children.

It Was Apparent to Gary That His Excessive and Careless Drinking Was Negatively Affecting His Health, Work, Relationship With His Family, and His Pocketbook

In his heart of hearts, it was obvious to Gary that his hazardous drinking was negatively affecting his health, pocketbook, relationship with his family, and his work. So one Friday afternoon Gary came to a decision to talk to Jerry, a trusted old police officer buddy that he greatly admired.

Gary mentioned to Jerry how irresponsible and unhealthy drinking was negatively affecting his health, pocketbook, relationship with his family, and his work. Jerry told Gary that he totally understood because around thirteen years ago, he too got involved in excessive and unhealthy drinking. Indeed, Jerry mentioned to Gary that excessive and irresponsible drinking can create so many problems in a person’s life that virtually everything of importance can be destroyed. And lastly, Jerry suggested that Gary schedule an appointment with an alcohol therapist at the work-affiliated alcohol abuse center.

Due to the fact that his employee’s assistance program was affiliated with this rehabilitation center, it was not only quite affordable but also very convenient to get some quality counseling about his hazardous and irresponsible drinking. And since the staff at the substance abuse rehabilitation facility was supportive, non-judgmental, and competent, Gary would be able to get alcohol treatment that made sense to him and something he could follow through on.

After talking to his psychologist about how his drinking was adversely affecting his pocketbook, health, work, and his relationship with his family, Gary understood that he was burning the candle at both ends with his crazy work hours and his unhealthy drinking. Once he comprehended that he was getting himself into a rut, with the help of his therapist, and after eleven weeks in treatment, he was finally able to stop drinking and quit working overtime.

Due to His Alcohol Counseling Gary Felt More Healthy and Had Much More Energy

The result was that Gary saw life another way now that he was in alcohol recovery. More to the point, due to his alcohol rehabilitation he not only was more patient when interacting with his wife and his children, but he actually had more money now even though he was working far fewer hours each week, he had more quality time to spend with his family, and he felt better and more healthy. Strangely enough, now that he quit drinking, Gary and his wife were not only beginning to save some money for a different house but he also felt more energized and alert than anytime since he and his wife were married.
