WEDDING GIFTS WITH A DIFFERENCE
More and more couples are choosing cash over traditional wedding gifts.
A study by a leading wedding magazine found that forty five per cent of couples said they’d prefer cash, while twenty seven per cent said they would like gift vouchers towards their honeymoon. That may be the trend, but somehow the giving of cash seems a bit impersonal and some people may even find it a bit uncomfortable.
Gift registries do solve some of the dilemmas of gift shopping – but where’s the fun? . To find something extra special for the couple, it’s time to think outside of the box. In other words, think outside of the ordinary box that contains something that can be broken, go out of fashion, be stored at the back of the cupboard never to be used – and think about something totally unique …. It’s a gift of a memory.
A new idea for wedding presents is a gift voucher for something that the couple can do together. The range of experiences and outings is vast – from white-knuckled adrenalin pumping white-water rafting, parasailing gifts and race car driving gifts, to peaceful flying gifts, hot air ballooning and parasailing to more indulgent treats like gourmet cooking lessons, wine tours and a coffee making course. The experience can be tailored to match up with the couple’s interests – from thrill-seekers and sports lovers to gourmets and wine connoisseurs. Now surely that beats a casserole dish or a set of steak knives?
And if you really wanted to be clever about things (and heed the research), it’s an idea to tie in the experience with the couple’s honeymoon. Getting the groom to spill the beans about where’re they’re headed could be the most difficult part of getting it together, but imagine the couple’s excitement when they find out what your gift has in store for them!.
Imagine a newlywed pair in Melbourne, Australia packing their bags for a much-needed and much-anticipated honeymoon in the winelands after all the build-up, hype and excitement of their big day. Wouldn’t they be blown away by a wedding gift that gave them an intimate and special treat of a hot air ballooning trip or a romantic indulgence at a day spa? It would be a gift to remember.
And if you’re looking for these inspirational gifts – look online at a website called BigThanks.com which is an online shopping site for experiential gifts in Sydney. Three young Australian entrepreneurs established the site because they saw a gap in the market for gifts with a difference – not only for weddings, but for business gifts, incentives, anniversaries, birthdays and even for pregnant mums
The trend may be towards cash for couples, but with a little forethought, you can give them a wedding gift that money can’t buy
